The Camp

This year’s DUP teachers will be Yelena Swarana, Bettina Shakura, Sophia Nicholson and Daren Messenger, Nickomo Clarke and Glen Unmana.

Yelena has organized the Latvian Dancing Heart Camp since 2009 and many subsequent local and international events. She has led dances across Europe, Asia, and the UK, finding personal transformation and deepened connection through the practice. She spends extended periods near Arunachala and delights in bringing people together in music, movement, and prayer. She will be teaching at Unicorn for the first time and we’re very happy to be able to invite her.

Bettina has loved dancing, singing and drumming since childhood, practicing African, Oriental and Sacred Circle Dance before discovering the Dances of Universal Peace, which guided her toward healing and wholeness. Born in Germany, she has also lived in England and France and long been a part of the dance communities and camps there. Initiated on the Sufi path and devoted to the divine feminine and embodied spirituality, she has led DUP since 2001, shared Sufi morning practices at Unicorn Camp, and – with partner Glen – offered seven day dance retreats in Morocco and Andorra. She is now based in Berlin.

Sophia has led the dances for many years and teaches regular groups in Hertfordshire. She has taught at Sacred Arts Camp and organizes the Dancing Hearts Camp in Cambridgeshire every year.

Daren is a regular on the teaching staff and will be sharing his love for the Aramaic Lord’s Prayer. Nickomo will share another Celtic Druid evening and Glen will share some of his favourite dances.

Unicorn Community Care Workshops
Following last year’s Ethics & Community workshop and call for teachers, we are thrilled to be able to present some special offerings under the theme of “Unicorn Community Care Workshops”:

Fayenen Lathrenwen – The Art of Repair – embodied tools for restoring trust and connection when difficulties arise.
Sile Walsh – Psychological Safety – co-creating it, relationally and collectively.
Sulia Rose – Listening Circle – I Am statements and deep listening.
Sylvan Barreau – Transformative Communication – foundational principles for creating sacred space.

We have also invited Agnieszka Ledwon to give a workshop on the topic of Power, Consent and Touch – creating safety and realising choice.

Other Unicorn Workshops
Hannah and friends will share afternoon Sufi Whirling classes to live music, this year’s Sufi Practice will be led by Dakini and early mornings will also feature Buddhist Mindfulness meditation with Daren.

Singing teachers include Pete offering Gospel Singing, Roz with Georgian Harmonies, Katinka sharing Ragas, Helen with Prana Chants, Jo Harvey with Harmony Singing, and Nickomo and friends with Harmonic Temple. Louisa, Karim and Jo Hanstead will take us on another beautiful journey with Devotional Singing.

After retiring for a year, Rosa has decided step back into teaching Circle Dance again, along with Tara and Maia Pelham-Green.

Other programme highlights include Firenight and drumming with Mike and Jo Macrae, soulwork/eldering sessions called Role to Soul with Darvesha, Yoga with Ty and Family Constellations with Barbara, and Ecstatic dance with Will & friends.
