A SUFI GARDEN
A life-affirming online evening with chants, body prayer and meditation

Wednesday Sept 10th 7.30-9.00pm
With Karim Hadden and Alan Heeks

Our theme is
MAKING FRIENDS WITH THE FRIEND
In Sufism the Divine presence is often described as the Friend or the Beloved. Samuel Lewis the founder of the Dances of Universal Peace often exclaimed to his students “God is your lover not your jailor!”. Jesus said “the Kingdom of God is within you”. In the Qur’an  there is a saying that Allah is nearer to us than our jugular vein. For the Sufis this verse speaks about the mystical experience of nearness with God, of divine intimacy. The Sufi relates to God not as judge, father figure or creator, but as our own Beloved, who is so close, so near, so tender. In the states of nearness the lover experiences an intimacy with the Beloved which carries the softness and ecstasy of love.

In this evening we will explore, through our usual mix of song, dance and meditation, how this intimate connection with the Divine can be invoked and awakened in us so that we can live with more joy and embody the divine qualities we need.

Karim Hadden is a highly experienced leader of devotional chants and Dances of Universal Peace. He has followed the path of Universal Sufism for many years, and works as a craniosacral therapist.

Alan Heeks has been exploring how people can grow with Nature for many years, with many groups at Hazel Hill Wood, the retreat centre he founded. His spiritual path weaves elements from the Sufi, Christian, Celtic and other traditions. See www.naturalhappiness.net
